Permanent Makeup - Lips, Eyeliner, and Brows (Ombre)

What is Permanent Cosmetics ?

Permanent makeup is not really makeup. Instead of a topical product applied every day to the brows, lids, and lips, permanent makeup — technically known as micropigmentation — is a permanent application of color to the top layer of the skin where you might normally use a brow pencil, eyeliner, or lip liner.

The color is chosen especially to suit your complexion and style, in the form of cosmetic ink. And the application process is a gentle form of tattooing. Permanent makeup is safe and painless — as long as you have the process done by a licensed, experienced aesthetician or doctor. Your practitioner will evaluate you for suitability; permanent makeup is not recommended for those with allergies to the ink ingredients or to the numbing solution used to reduce discomfort during tattooing. If your skin has a tendency to form keloids or your immune system is compromised, you will also be cautioned against the procedure. Otherwise, discomfort is minimal and side effects or complications rare.

Permanent makeup looks like you, if you had an extra hour to get ready every morning or your own in-home makeup artist. The coloration is natural and understated, but gives you that “put together” look. You can go out as is after your normal daily routine of cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen, or build on the base by adding base, eye shadow, and lipstick to whatever degree you wish. Save time with permanent makeup.

The Permanent Makeup process:

The consultation:The first part of the process is a consultation. This is normally done as part of your initial treatment, but can be done separately if you prefer. Our artist will talk with you in great detail about the look you are trying to achieve and what we might recommend to you. This is very much a two-way conversation. Our artist will listen, respond, and advise. Once she has an idea of the look you are aiming for, we draw the area on with a makeup pencil. These can be drawn on and adjusted as many times as necessary! We will never begin the tattoo process until you are completely happy with what they are going to look like.

Permanent Makeup Treatment: Using a specialist facial tattooing machine, which works at a much lower frequency than a standard tattoo machine, we gently apply pigment to the skin using very fine needles. The sensation is that of an electric toothbrush being held against your skin – you feel the vibrations but you should not feel any discomfort. We will always work with you at this stage, giving you breaks if you need them. The process normally takes 1 - 3 hours but it varies from person to person depending on your individual requirements and which permanent treatment you are having done, we will discuss this further during the consultation. Immediately after treatment you should expect the area to look 40-50% darker than the colour you have chosen in consultation. This will start to fade after 3-4 days.

The Retouch: A second appointment is needed 6-12 weeks after your first permanent makeup treatment. This is usually a 30-60 minute appointment to add more pigment to the area. This is because as the area is healing, some parts may not ‘hold’ as well as others and you may have a few patches that need more colour. This is completely normal and everyone heals differently. Whatever the case, we advise you too always come back to our clinic for your retouch.

For a faster healing process: We offer 2-panel Lightstem Therapy at only $65 for 20 minutes.. The typical treatment time may vary slightly but on average it is around 20 minutes. Lightstem helps to increase collagen and elastin productions, reduce inflammation, speed healing, increase circulation, and destroy acne bacteria! It is one of our more popular treatments being quick and effective at a relatively low cost to you. This treatment can also be done by itself for the many benefits it gives. Handheld versions also available to purchase in our Birmingham, Al office.
