Tattoo Lightening – Salt/Saline Solution

AVC Aesthetics uses a salt/saline solution to lighten tattoos in any area, including eyeliner areas. We may lighten a tattoo area up to 4”x4” size in one sitting and on any color of skin. The area is tattooed in a similar process as getting the tattoo in the first place, and a salt paste is put on the tattoo area. The salt draws the pigment to the surface of the skin where it will eventually exfoliate away. With this method of tattoo removal, clients could expect the tattoo to get lighter, but a full removal should not be expected. Clients should expect 3-4 procedures before they see desired results. The skin can be re-tattooed after this treatments heals.

How does the treatment work? The technician will tattoo a special salt/saline solution into the tattoo. Once the area has been opened, a salt paste is put on the area. The salt draws the pigment to the surface of the skin where it will eventually exfoliate away. The removal process can be slow, but is much safer than many laser removal treatments, especially for darker skin types or sensitive skin.

What can the client expect during and after treatments? During the treatment the client should expect some minor bleeding and some bruising. There will also be tenderness of the area for a few days. The area should scab over and heal over the course of a few weeks. Fading will happen gradually over several months.

What are the benefits of this procedure? The tattoo is lighter and could possibly fade completely over time. This removal technique is safe for all skin types. The salt/saline removal is safer and has less risks of hyper/hypo pigmentation, blistering, and scarring than laser removal treatments. The skin may be tattooed over once the area has sufficiently healed.

Who are the best candidates? Individuals who are patient and willing to follow aftercare instructions are good candidates. Clients on blood thinning medications or who want the tattoo removed as soon as possible are not good candidates for this treatment.

What final results can the client expect? The client should be realistic in their expectations. They should expect a lightening of the tattoo, but a full removal should not be expected. This treatment usually takes 3-4 procedures.
